Building Wreaths With Small Images (MIM #289)...

Here it is, the end of June already! And time for another challenge. This week Lizzie Jones shows us how to create a stamped wreath by using a variety of small stamps and accents. You can watch the video here ➜ Make It Monday #289: Building Wreaths With Small Images.

I'm never good at making my wreath round, but like Lizzie, I drew a circle on my white cardstock paper to help place the stamps. I stamped the twigs/branches around the circle in Spring Moss and Simply Chartreuse inks and added the flowers in Pure Poppy ink and the hearts in Lovely Lady ink. The wreath still needed more filler so I added smaller flowers in Berry Sorbet ink and accents in Aqua Mist ink. To help shape the wreath, I continued to stamp small leaves in Simply Chartreuse ink.

I die-cut the heart three times in Pure Poppy cardstock, stacked and glued it together and stamped "True Love" on it in black ink. The sentiment is stamped in Smokey Shadow ink.

I have the new To The Edge Pointers and die-cut the bottom of the panel. The panel is on a Pure Poppy cardstock card base with a bit of white crochet thread tied around the top.

Card Details:
  • Stamps:  PTI Twig Wreath, To Have And To Hold, Keep It Simple: Anniversary, Love & Marriage
  • Paper:  PTI Pure Poppy, White Stampers Select
  • Ink:  PTI Spring Moss, Simply Chartreuse, Pure Poppy, Berry Sorbet, Aqua Mist, Lovely Lady, Smokey Shadow; Memento Tuxedo Black
  • Dies:  PTI Framed Out #1, To The Edge Pointers

Happy 75th Birthday...

I made this card a few months ago for someone I used to work with - I can't believe he turned 75!!

I used Hooray printed pattern paper and placed it on a white cardstock card base. I die-cut a circle in Enchanted Evening and a smaller one in white cardstock. The numbers are die-cut in Spring Rain cardstock, the 5 cut several times and layered. I stamped "happy" in Pure Poppy ink.

I added the banner behind the circle, die-cut in Summer Sunrise cardstock. The "th" is also cut in the same cardstock. Birthday is die-cut 3 times in Pure Poppy cardstock and stacked together.

I really like this Hooray pattern paper because there are so many colors you can use with it!

Card Details:
  • Stamps:  PTI Big Birthday Wishes
  • Paper:  PTI Pure Poppy, Spring Rain, White Stampers Select, Enchanted Evening, Summer Sunrise, Hooray
  • Ink:  PTI Pure Poppy
  • Dies:  PTI By The Numbers, Double Ended Banner, Birthday Trio, Suffix Style; Small & Large Circle Nestabilities

No Matter How Or When...

I made this card a few months ago for a friend who suddenly lost her dog. She loves flowers and thought a card with wildflowers would be nice for her to receive.

On white cardstock with a make-up brush, I lightly applied Hawaiian Shores and Spring Moss inks to create the sky and grassy area. I stamped the flowers in Amethyst Allure, stamping once fully inked and then stamping again without re-inking the stamp.

The sentiment is stamped in Smokey Shadow ink. The panel looked too plain, so I used my Wonky Stitched Rectangles to add just a bit of texture. I placed the panel on an Amethyst Allure cardstock card base.

I like to add butterflies to sympathy cards, and placed two on the card. My last step was tying white crochet twine around the card.

Card Details:

  • Stamps:  MFT Peaceful Wildflowers; PTI Sympathy: Loss Of A Pet
  • Paper:  PTI Amethyst Allure, Lilac Grace, White Stampers Select
  • Ink:  PTI Amethyst Allure, Spring Moss, Hawaiian Shores, Smokey Shadow
  • Dies:  Memory Box Dancing Butterflies; MFT Stitched Wonky Rectangles
  • Other:  Crochet Thread
  • Size:  4.25" x 5.5"

Papertrey June 2017 Blog Hop Challenge...

Another month has gone by so quickly! I had a hard time coming up with an idea for this month's inspiration photo because I didn't know whether I wanted to make something with the pinks or blues/greens in the picture. Decisions, decisions! After much deliberation, I thought the easiest thing was to use one of the already made pattern sheets from Ombre Stripes! Is that cheating?😎

I placed the Tropical Teal ombre striped paper on a white cardstock card base. The vase is die-cut in Aqua Mist cardstock and embossed with the Linen & Canvas Impression Plate. The flowers are die-cut in white cardstock and stamped with Pale Peony and Sweet Blush with Berry Sorbet centers, and the leaves are stamped in Green Parakeet ink. I placed the flowers between a couple layers of the vase and tied white crochet thread around the neck, gluing the strings down to keep them in place.

The sentiment is stamped in black ink on a Building Block die. I placed it on fun foam and slightly overlapped the vase. I added a few sequins to finish the card.

Card Details:
  • Stamps:  PTI Petite Pots
  • Paper:  PTI Ombre Stripes, White Stampers Select, Aqua Mist
  • Ink:  PTI Pale Peony, Sweet Blush, Berry Sorbet, Green Parakeet; Memento Tuxedo Black
  • Dies:  PTI Petite Pots, Mega Gracious Vases, Building Blocks
  • Tools:  PTI Linen & Canvas Impression Plate
  • Other:  Crochet Thread; Sequins; Fun Foam
  • Size:  4.25" x 5.5"

Happy Birthday...

I can't believe I'm out of male birthday cards! I need to get busy and make a few for my stash. I'm not looking forward to it because I struggle with ideas for masculine cards.

I have lots of washi tape and thought this design would make a nice manly looking card. I placed the washi tape at an angle, wrapping it on the back of the panel. I stamped then sentiment right between the strips of tape.

I backed the panel with fun foam and placed it on a Simply Chartreuse cardstock card base. The colors in the washi tape match it perfectly!

Card Details:
  • Stamps:  Altenew Painted Greetings
  • Paper:  PTI Simply Chartreuse, White Stampers Select
  • Ink:  Versafine Onyx Black
  • Other:  Scotch Washi Tape; Fun Foam
  • Size:  4.25" x 5.5"

Pantone Chip Inspired Cards (MIM #288)...

I have to admit, I've never seen Pantone chips, or if I did, really didn't pay attention to them. But after seeing Lexi Daly's video Make It Monday #288: Pantone Chip Inspired Cards, I'm hooked on this technique! Lexi shows us how to create and decorate the chips.

Since I just received my June PTI purchases, I decided to use Beautiful Berries: Summer for my card. I started by die-cutting the berries and stamping them in Pure Poppy and Scarlet Jewel inks and the leaves in Green Parakeet and New Leaf inks. I die-cut the berries 4 times and stacked them together.

My chip is Pure Poppy and white cardstock. I did it the way Lexi suggested, with a backer piece to give it a little more stability. The size of this chip is 3.0" x 3.75". I stamped the sentiment, from Beautiful Berries: Summer in black ink.

I didn't want to have a plain background and used one of the Modern Background stencils with Pure Poppy ink. I added a little glitter to the berries to finish the card.

I had so much fun making this card that I decided to make another one in blue. For the chip I used Blueberry Sky and white cardstock. The berries are stamped in Blueberry Sky and Enchanted Evening inks. Everything else is the same.

For the background, I used a brick wall stencil with Blueberry Sky ink. This time I placed the chip to the left side instead of centering it. The sentiment is Keep It Simple: Friendship.

Fun technique, especially if you need a quick card! I can see myself using it often!

Happy Father's Day...

Father's Day is here and that means the "holidays" are over until Halloween. And that will be here before we know it!

For this card, I started with a Kraft cardstock card base and added a layer of masculine looking pattern paper. I cut a rectangle of white cardstock, created the V-neck by cutting and folding the paper and rounding the corners.

The tie is die-cut in Pinefeather cardstock and adhered with fun foam for a little dimension. I die-cut the letters for the word dad in Kraft cardstock and stamped the sentiment in Cocoa Bean ink.

Card Details:
  • Stamps:  PTI Keep It Simple: Father
  • Paper:  PTI Kraft, Pinefeather, Argyle Socks; The Paper Company
  • Ink:  PTI Kraft
  • Dies:  PTI Tie, Block Alphabet Upper Case
  • Tools:  Corner Rounder

Happy Father's Day...

I think the Birch Land stamp set is probably used more for Fall cards, but I thought the tree and deer from Modern Deer would make a nice Father's Day card.

On white cardstock, I created the sky and grassy area by lightly rubbing Aqua Mist ink and Spring Moss ink with a make up brush. Next, I stamped the tree trunk in brown ink; the leaves were made by randomly stamping 3 different leaf stamps using Spring Moss, Pistachio and Pear Tart inks.

I colored the tree trunk with colored pencils and applied mineral spirits with a blending paper stump to help blend the pencil. You can see in the picture the three steps I did: 1) stamping the tree in Cocoa Bean ink, 2) coloring it with brown pencils and 3) applying and blending the mineral spirits. It really makes a big difference!

The deer is die-cut in white cardstock, stamped with Desert Sand and Cocoa Bean inks and placed on foam tape for dimension. I added a few grass blades in Pistachio ink and stamped the sentiment in Cocoa Bean ink.

Card Details:
  • Stamps:  Altenew Birch Land, Modern Deer; PTI Masculine Motifs; WPlus9 Unforgettable
  • Paper:  PTI White Stampers Select
  • Ink:  PTI Cocoa Bean, Spring Moss, Aqua Mist; Memento Pistachio, Desert Sand, Pear Tart
  • Dies:  Altenew Modern Deer
  • Other: Prismacolor Pencils PC1010 [Beige Sienna], PC945 [Sienna Brown]; Mineral Spirits; Paper Stump; Foam Tape

Papertrey June 2017 Create Along With Us...

Seeing the new Beautiful Berries: Summer stamps that are coming out this month inspired me to use the current set (Spring) I have. The summer berries look so realistic! And even thought it's really hot here, I did manage to make a card. It's not even summer yet and I can't wait until Fall!!πŸ˜„

On white cardstock using a chevron stencil, I lightly rubbed Soft Stone ink to create the wavy background. I die-cut two of the flower clusters in white cardstock and stamped the flowers with Lovely Lady and Berry Sorbet inks. The leaves are stamped with Spring Moss and Simply Chartreuse inks.

The top flower cluster is on foam tape for dimension. I stamped the sentiment in Smokey Shadow ink and added the strawberry twine. My last step was adding a little bit of glitter to the flowers.

Card Details:
  • Stamps:  PTI Beautiful Berries: Spring, Offbeat Birthday
  • Paper:  PTI White Stampers Select
  • Ink:  PTI Lovely Lady, Berry Sorbet, Spring Moss, Simply Chartreuse, Smokey Shadow, Soft Stone
  • Dies:  PTI Beautiful Berries: Spring

To A Wonderful Friend...

I'm trying to use some of my neglected stamps - there are so many of them! So I pulled out Simple Flowers to ink up again for this card.

On white cardstock, I stamped the flowers in Raspberry Fizz, Hawaiian Shores and Lulu Lavender inks. I ran the panel through the Cuttlebug with a stitched rectangle die.

The banner is die-cut in Hawaiian Shores cardstock and the sentiment stamped in black ink. I placed it on foam tape for dimension.

Quick and easy!

This Is The Time...

Father's Day will soon be here and I made a few different cards for SAS4K. This card is a remake of one I've done before using the Hands of Time stamp.

On Rustic Cream cardstock, I stamped the two clocks in Kraft ink, adding the Roman numerals in Enchanted Evening ink. The hands are die-cut in Enchanted Evening cardstock, adhered to the card, with a small, gold, metal accent placed in the middle.

I also stamped the sentiment in Enchanted Evening ink. I thought this was a more mature card for one of the older kids to give.

Card Details:
  • Stamps:  PTI Hands Of Time, Keep It Simple: Father
  • Paper:  PTI Rustic Cream
  • Ink:  PTI Kraft, Enchanted Evening
  • Dies:  PTI Hands Of Time
  • Other:  Metal Accent

Baby Wipe Inking (MIM #287)...

It took me a while to think up what to do with this week's Make It Monday #287: Baby Wipe Inking, hosted by Ashley Cannon Newell. The challenge is to use baby wipes and reinkers to create a background or pattern. I didn't want to just do a random, blotted background because I figured I wouldn't be happy with it. So I pulled out some stencils....

On white cardstock, using the stencil from the Sunshine & Rainbows mini kit, Lemon Tart reinker and a baby wipe, I blotted the ink to create the rays. I stamped the sentiment in black ink in the lower right hand corner.

The sun and clouds are die-cut in white cardstock, stamped with Versamark ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder. For the sun, I rubbed Lemon Tart ink on it, adding Summer Sunrise ink to the edges and center. The clouds have a light coating of Aqua Mist ink on them.

I trimmed the panel down and added a strip of Lemon Tart Stripes at the bottom and placed the sun and clouds on foam tape for dimension. The panel is adhered to a white cardstock card base with white crochet thread around the spine.

Very happy with the way this one turned out! (It looks much better in person, can't get a good picture!)

Card Details:
  • Stamps:  PTI What The Doodle: Sun, Choose Joy
  • Paper:  PTI White Stampers Select, Lemon Tart Stripes
  • Ink:  PTI Lemon Tart, Summer Sunrise, Aqua Mist; Memento Tuxedo Black; Versamark
  • Dies:  PTI What The Doodle: Sun
  • Tools:  PTI Make It Market Mini Kit: Sunshine & Rainbows Stencils, Heat Tool
  • Other:  Baby Wipe; Embossing Powder; Crochet Thread; Foam Tape

Coordinating Card Pairs (MIM #286)...

This week Stephanie Gold hosts the challenge where we have to make two coordinating cards that use the same supplies but are different in looks. You can see the cards Stephanie created here ⇢ Make It Monday #286: Coordinating Card Pairs.

I had a dream the other night I was using the Cover Plate: Quatrefoil die and took it as a sign to use it. For my first card, I embossed the Quatrefoil die in Aqua Mist cardstock, trimming it a bit and placing it on a white cardstock card base.

Using the Splits: Best Wishes die, I die-cut in white cardstock. I stamped the image in Versamark, sprinkled it with silver embossing powder and heat set it. I stacked three of these die-cuts together for a little dimension and stamped the sentiment in black ink. I added sheer white ribbon with silver stripes around the side of the card.

For my second card, I used the negative of the Quatrefoil die, placed it over white cardstock and lightly brushed it with Aqua Mist ink. I placed the panel on an Aqua Mist cardstock card base.

I did the same heat embossing and stacking as above, only this time I used Aqua Mist cardstock. I had a hard time getting the embossing powder to stick to the colored cardstock - I tried different embossing inks and embossing powders before I got a combination that worked. I'm not sure if it's because I was using colored cardstock or does embossing powder go bad after a while? Anyone know?

I stamped the sentiment and added the same ribbon on the top of the card.

Here's a look at both cards together.

Card Details:
  • Stamps:  PTI Splits: Best Wishes, Splits: Get Well Soon
  • Paper:  PTI White Stampers Select, Aqua Mist
  • Ink:  PTI Aqua Mist; Memento Tuxedo Black; Versamark
