PTI Transformation Tuesday...

It's another Tuesday and time for transforming a card I wasn't so crazy about when I first made it. I remember making this card for the February 2017 Blog Hop and never really liked the final product. So it's time for an update to make it a little more appealing.

This is the "old" card:

For the updated version, I decided to stick with most of the same colors and the diamond pattern. On white cardstock, using a diamond stencil, I stenciled around the edges in Soft Stone ink. I die-cut the wraps in pattern paper and backed each one with white cardstock for support.

The flowers are die-cut in white cardstock and stamped with Raspberry Fizz, Spring Moss and Prairie Grass inks. Can you tell Spring Moss and Prairie Grass are my go to stem colors? I arranged the wrap-ups, placing the right one on foam tape for dimension.

The sentiment is stamped in black ink. I trimmed the panel and adhered it to a True Black cardstock card base.

The "new and improved" card:

Card Details:
  • Stamps:  PTI Floral Wrap Ups, Ever So Much
  • Paper:  PTI White Stampers Select, True Black, Bitty Boxes, Spring Moss Stripes
  • Ink:  PTI Soft Stone, Raspberry Fizz, Spring Moss, Prairie Grass; Memento Tuxedo Black
  • Dies:  PTI Floral Wrap Ups
  • Tools:  PTI Stencil Basics: Diamonds
  • Other:  Foam Tape
  • Size:  4.25" x 5.5"

Stenciled Edges (MIM #316)...

I was happy to see we get to play with stencils for this week's challenge - Make It Monday #316: Stenciled Edges. I really like the look of stencils, and since I finally organized mine (thanks to a Lizzie Jones tip), I have them all handy. Lizzie is also the host for this week's MIM and wants us to try stenciling just around the edges of our card front.

I used a brick wall stencil with Aqua Mist ink to create the stenciling around the edges of a piece of white cardstock. Next, I die-cut two lilies in white cardstock. For the stems, I stamped them first in Spring Moss ink and added Prairie Grass ink by swiping the ink cube on the stamp to give it a lined look. The flowers are stamped in Hawaiian Shores, Tropical Teal and Lemon Tart ink, with black for the wispy thingies. Is that the stamen?

I pulled out an older stamp set, Birthday Classics: April and stamped the sentiment in black ink and arranged the flowers, placing one on foam tape for dimension. The panel is on a Tropical Teal cardstock card base. Tropical Teal, Hawaiian Shores and Aqua Mist are one of my favorite color combos!

Card Details:
  • Stamps:  PTI Lilies of the Field, Birthday Classics: April
  • Paper:  PTI Tropical Teal, White Stampers Select
  • Ink:  PTI Tropical Teal, Hawaiian Shores, Aqua Mist, Lemon Tart, Spring Moss, Prairie Grass; Memento Tuxedo Black
  • Dies:  PTI Lilies of the Field
  • Tools:  MFT English Brick Wall
  • Other:  Foam Tape
  • Size:  4.25" x 5.5"

Papertrey March 2018 Blog Hop...

The months seem to be going quickly this year and winter is finally over and it's time for another Blog Hop challenge! This month's inspiration photo screams Spring to me! I love all the pastel colors and the beautiful blues that surround the photo. I concentrated on the tulips and the blue for my card.

On a panel of white cardstock, I stamped the tulips in Lovely Lady ink for the first layer, Lovely Lady (stamped 3 times) for the second layer and Hibiscus Burst ink for the third layer. The leaves are stamped in Green Parakeet and New Leaf inks. Instead of tapping the ink on the stamps, I swiped it to give them a streaky look.

The sentiment is stamped in Smokey Shadow ink. I took Spring Rain ink and rubbed it all around the flowers to mimic the blue background in the photo. I used a stitched rectangle on the panel and adhered it to a white cardstock card base. I added a little bit of glitter to the flower tips as my final step.

Card Details:
  • Stamps:  PTI Tulip Time, Keep It Simple: Sympathy
  • Paper:  PTI White Stampers Select
  • Ink:  PTI Lovely Lady, Hibiscus Burst, Green Parakeet, New Leaf, Smokey Shadow, Spring Rain
  • Dies:  Lil Inker Designs Stitched Rectangles
  • Other:  Glitter
  • Size:  4.25" x 5.5"

Embossing Enamel Splatters (MIM #315)...

Time for another challenge! This week Melissa Phillips is the host and shows us how to add dimension to our projects with embossing enamel. You can watch the video here ↪ Make It Monday #315: Embossing Enamel Splatters. I don't have embossing enamel, but the challenge said we could use embossing powder, which I have plenty! Now I have to find some embossing enamel!😉

I'm still loving Gran's Garden and used that for my card. I die-cut the flowers and leaves in white cardstock and stamped them with Summer Sky, Blueberry Sky and Spring Moss inks. I used a Copic marker to give the leaves the darker green.

On a panel of white cardstock, I stamped the "splatters" using Versamark ink and a stamp from Tinsel & Tags Sprigs. I used white embossing powder and heat seat the splatters. Next, I took Summer Sky ink and rubbed it over the top of the panel, wiping off the excess ink. The sentiment is stamped in black ink.

I arranged the flowers/leaves on the card, placing the large flower on foam tape for dimension. The panel is on a Blueberry Sky cardstock card base.

Card Details:
  • Stamps:  PTI Gran's Garden, Beautiful Butterflies, Tinsel & Tags Sprigs
  • Paper:  PTI White Stampers Select, Blueberry Sky
  • Ink:  PTI Blueberry Sky, Spring Moss; Memento Summer Sky; Versafine Onyx Black; Versamark
  • Dies:  PTI Gran's Garden
  • Copics: YG93
  • Tools: Heat Tool
  • Other:  Recollections Embossing Powder; Foam Tape
  • Size:  4.25" x 5.5"

PTI Transformation Tuesday...

Transformation Tuesday is a new PTI challenge. The idea is to take a card you made in the past and transform it in some way. I've had this card sitting on my desk since last June and for some reason, I don't like it that much. Maybe it's the way the berries go up and down? Or the stenciling? Who knows, but it was the perfect choice to "fix" today. We're having our 4th nor'easter within 3 weeks so this is a good day to sit and craft.

Here's the "old" card:

For the new card, I changed the stenciling on the background and used Hexagons inked with Soft Stone ink. I die-cut the berries in white cardstock and stamped them in different colors - Raspberry Fizz and Pure Poppy. The leaves are stamped in Spring Moss and Prairie Grass inks. I placed both in a downward position, with the right one on foam tape for dimension.

I used a thinner style Happy Birthday sentiment stamped in black ink. I got rid of the colored twine and used white crochet thread, tying it around the top. I also put Wink of Stella on the berries, which you can't see in the picture.

And the "new", card which I like much better.

Card Details:
  • Stamps:  PTI Beautiful Berries: Spring, Keep It Simple: Birthday III
  • Paper:  PTI White Stampers Select
  • Ink:  PTI Soft Stone, Spring Moss, Prairie Grass, Raspberry Fizz, Pure Poppy; Versafine Onyx Black
  • Dies:  PTI Beautiful Berries: Spring
  • Other:  PTI Hexagon Stencil; Crochet Thread; Foam Tape; Wink of Stella
  • Size:  4.25" x 5.5"

Papertrey March 2018 Create Along With Us...

It seems like ages since I did any crafting, I can't seem to snap out of my non-crafting funk! But after seeing this beautiful card from Laurie Schmidlin, I thought I could make something similar. I really liked the look of Aqua Mist on Aqua Mist! Plus it gave me a chance to pull out my spiral notebook die that hasn't been used for a long time.

For my card, I started off with an Aqua Mist cardstock card base and, like Laurie, added another layer of Aqua Mist cardstock, stenciled with Aqua Mist polka dots.

I die-cut the notebook page in white cardstock and added lines with a thin, black marker. I stamped the sentiment in Raspberry Fizz ink and the little paperclip in Spring Moss ink. The berries are die-cut in white cardstock and stamped with Raspberry Fizz, Pure Poppy, Spring Moss and Prairie Grass inks. I placed it on foam tape for dimension and added a little glitter.

Before assembling the card, I placed fun foam on the back of the panel and wrapped Pink Sorbet twine around the top, just like Laurie did. I really like the look of this Spring-like card!

Card Details:
  • Stamps:  PTI Beautiful Berries: Spring, Beautiful Berries: Summer, Take Note
  • Paper:  PTI Aqua Mist, White Stampers Select
  • Ink:  PTI Raspberry Fizz, Pure Poppy, Spring Moss, Prairie Grass
  • Dies:  PTI Beautiful Berries: Summer, Spiral Notebook Page
  • Tools:  Heidi Swapp Polka Dots Stencil
  • Other:  Black Marker; Twine; Fun Foam; Foam Tape; Glitter
  • Size:  4.25" x 5.5"

Color Wheel Cards (MIM #314)...

Another week has gone by quickly and it's time for a new challenge! This week Lexi Daly shows us how to create cards inspired by a color wheel. You can watch the video here Make It Monday #314: Color Wheel Cards and play along.

I really liked the colors Lexi used for her card and decided to use the same for mine. I didn't have the Shape Shifters Circle and created something similar by using Cover Plate: Twist.  I die-cut it in white cardstock and used the Scene It: Basic Backer to create the circle. I adhered it to a piece of True Black cardstock, die-cut with the same die.

Next, I pulled out flowers from a few different sets, die-cut them in white cardstock and stamped them with a variety of inks. I placed the large black/white circle on a white cardstock card base and added the center circle on foam tape with the sentiment stamped in black ink. I arranged the stamped flowers around the circle until I was happy with the way they looked.

I didn't like seeing so much white background and made two score lines at the bottom to break things up a bit. I was much happier with the way it looked with the lines.😊

Here's a better/closer look at the lines:

Card Details:
  • Stamps:  PTI Gran's Garden, Color Pop Florals, Sketched Shapes, Rosie Posie, Rosie Posie 2
  • Paper:  PTI White Stampers Select, True Black
  • Ink:  PTI Amethyst Allure, Berry Sorbet, Pure Poppy, Harvest Gold, Bright Buttercup, Summer Sunrise, Orange Zest, Green Parakeet, Hawaiian Shores, Tropical Teal; Memento Lulu Lavender; Versafine Onyx Black
